MHG's mobile service takes biomass quality monitoring to the real-time era
The Finnish supplier of bioenergy ERP solutions, MHG Systems, has today introduced an extension to their popular MHG Bioenergy ERP service. This new extension makes it possible to monitor biofuel moisture levels already in the field. On the other hand, the real-time moisture monitoring also improves transportation management and creates significant financial savings.

This service extension which was introduced in Jyväskylä at the Wood and Bioenergy 2009 Exhibition allows the users to monitor biofuel moisture levels already in the field. The service works in all mobile devices to which the MHG Mobile application has been installed. The moisture level measurement itself is based on the measuring technology, which has been developed by the Finnish FarmComp Oy and corresponds with the EU's current CEN/TS 14774-1:2004 technical specification.
"This introduced service further supports the MHG Systems' service portfolio that is used to manage biomass delivery chains in real-time. Biofuel moisture management, quality monitoring and detailed documentation constitute an integral part of the MHG Bioenergy ERP service", says the Managing Director of MHG Systems Seppo Huurinainen who spoke at the conference in Jyväskylä.
Annual savings of a quarter million
The new service extension allows users to link the biofuel moisture information to the raw material information. Thanks to the mobile devices, the moisture information measured with FarmComp's measuring techniques can be integrated to the MHG Bioenergy ERP solution already in the field. This information helps the bioenergy operators to optimise their transportations and material acquisitions for thermal power stations. "If a mid-size Finnish city improves the optimisation of their biofuel moisture levels, it can save almost 250,000 euros per year on the costs resulting from the forest fuel delivery chain of the city's thermal or power plant", Huurinainen emphasises and refers to a study that MHG carried out in cooperation with the Joensuu Research Unit of the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla) and the University of Joensuu.
The service is immediately available as an overall solution that also includes a BlackBerry mobile device
MHG Systems offers its own Bioenergy ERP service to the bioenergy companies around the world. In order to simplify the implementation of its new real-time moisture monitoring, MHG Systems has created a comprehensive starter package, which includes the Bioenergy ERP service, FarmComp's measuring sensors, the MHG Mobile applications, and a widely popular BlackBerry mobile device to be used as the platform for the application. "MHG Mobile works also in Nokia's S60 Symbian phones and soon in Windows Mobile based mobile devices also", ensures MHG Systems' Technology manager Veli-Matti Plosila.
MHG Bioenergy ERP
The MHG Bioenergy ERP service is a true operative tool, designed for electricity, heating, pellets, forest industry and forest service companies. It can be used via web browser or mobile devices. It is a specific bioenergy sector ERP system and map service solution, which provides valuable information for developing one's business operations. Bioenergy ERP allows the use of new, particularly contract-based, and empowering operational models. The superior features of the service include transparency throughout the delivery chain, managing the moisture content of bioenergy masses, reporting features based on the amount of energy, i.e. megawatt hours, and accounts and invoicing.
